President Masoud Barzani Hails Kurdistan Women's Union on 73rd Anniversary

In a message marking a historic milestone, President Masoud Barzani extended his congratulations on Thursday to the Kurdistan Women's Union (KWU) on the occasion of its 73rd anniversary.

In his official message, addressed to the Secretary and members of the KWU Secretariat Bureau, President Barzani praised the union as a cornerstone of the Kurdish national movement.

"The Kurdistan Women's Union is a significant achievement of the national struggle and the liberation movement of Kurdistan," Barzani stated. He highlighted its "prominent and impactful role in raising awareness, protecting women's rights, and strengthening the status of Kurdish women."

The Kurdish leader emphasized the union's enduring voice and activism, noting it has "through its ceaseless struggle, succeeded in conveying the voice of the women of Kurdistan and serving as a vital part of the national and civil struggle of the people of Kurdistan."

Reflecting on the broader contributions of Kurdish women, Barzani expressed his appreciation for their "struggle and sacrifices" and the responsibilities they have carried throughout the various stages of the Kurdish people's history.

Looking forward, he expressed confidence that the KWU "will continue to play a pioneering role in the future in advancing the just cause of our people and defending the rights and demands of women."

The Kurdistan Women's Union, founded in 1952, is one of the oldest women's organizations in the region and has been integral to social and political activism within the Kurdish struggle for decades. President Barzani's message underscores the formal recognition of its longstanding role in both the national movement and the fight for gender equality in Kurdistan.
