Iran Allows IAEA Inspectors to Visit Nuclear Sites Amid Tensions
Inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) visited several Iranian nuclear sites last week, the country's foreign ministry confirmed on Monday, in a move that comes amid heightened friction between Tehran and the UN's nuclear watchdog.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei stated that IAEA inspectors had been granted access to "several nuclear facilities, including the Tehran Research Reactor," though he did not specify the other locations involved. The announcement, carried by state media, included a reaffirmation of Iran's commitments. "As long as we are a member of the NPT (Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons), we will abide by our commitments," Baghaei said.
This limited access follows a direct call from the IAEA just days earlier for Iran to “seriously improve” its cooperation.
