President Barzani Meets KDP European Cadres, Stresses Unity and Defense of Kurdistan's Rights

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – President Masoud Barzani met with officials from the Kurdistan Democratic Party's (KDP) European branch on Thursday, emphasizing the critical role of the diaspora and calling for resilience in the face of ongoing challenges to the Region.

The gathering, held in Pirmam district, focused on the upcoming Iraqi parliamentary elections and the broader political landscape, according to a statement from the Barzani Headquarters.

President Barzani expressed his appreciation for the delegation's continued support, particularly for the KDP's campaign for List 275 in the elections. He highlighted the "important role played by Kurdish diaspora cadres in advancing national causes and representing the Kurdistan Region abroad."

During the meeting, Barzani provided an overview of the current political situation in Iraq and the region, with a sharp focus on the Kurdistan Region’s constitutional rights. He reiterated that numerous provisions of Iraq's permanent constitution remain unimplemented, stressing "the need for a just and lawful political process.

Reflecting on history, Barzani recounted the decades of persecution endured by the Kurdish people under previous Iraqi regimes. Despite this painful past, he noted that the Kurdistan Region has achieved significant development and carried out major projects "for all communities without discrimination."

Issuing a call for unity, Barzani urged party members and supporters to stand firm against contemporary threats, drawing a parallel to earlier periods when the Peshmerga defended the homeland. He specifically warned of "ongoing attempts by adversaries to destabilize the region," including efforts to spread drugs among the population, which he described as a "direct threat to society and national security."

Emphasizing self-reliance, Barzani affirmed that the Region would not surrender its legitimate rights.

“We depend on God and on our people,” Barzani stated. “We will never compromise on the rightful demands of our nation, regardless of the pressure."

The meeting concluded with a reinforced message of unity and determination to protect the gains achieved by the Kurdistan Region.
