Prime Minister Inaugurates Livestock Project, Reaffirms Commitment to Providing Optimal Environment for Private Sector
As part of his continuous support for the private sector and efforts to diversify the economic base, Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani inaugurated the “Migel” (The Herd) Project in Erbil today, Sunday, October 26, 2025, during an official ceremony.
This project, established on an area of about 366 dunams with a total investment of $100 million, is a pioneering private-sector facility in the fields of livestock and agriculture, particularly in animal husbandry and food industries.
Following the inauguration ceremony, the Prime Minister took a field tour to inspect all key sections of the project, including the modern slaughterhouse, commercial center, veterinary control unit, wastewater treatment station, waste management unit, and green areas dedicated to the project.
In his speech during the ceremony, the Prime Minister welcomed the attendees and emphasized the great importance of the Migel Project as a qualitative addition that will provide expanded services to citizens. He expressed his great pleasure at reviewing the project details, praising its implementation by local expertise with the use of modern technologies and international standards, giving the project a modern and advanced character.
He explained that the project would significantly contribute to reassuring citizens and meeting their nutritional needs by organizing the processes of feed supply, livestock breeding and sales, and ensuring the delivery of safe local products that meet global standards.
The Prime Minister stressed the crucial point that the project is under the continuous health supervision of the Ministry of Health, ensuring that all operations comply with the highest safety standards. He noted that this oversight provides consumers with full confidence in the quality and safety of the products and addresses previous challenges related to disease outbreaks caused by the lack of health supervision in unregulated slaughterhouses.
He added that this achievement is an integral part of the ongoing efforts by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) to support and facilitate private sector activities. He emphasized that although the project is privately funded, the government has provided all necessary facilitations to ensure its success, reaffirming that the KRG will continue its approach of streamlining procedures to deliver better and faster services to citizens.
The Prime Minister also referred to previous successes in supporting productive sectors, particularly agriculture, which have enabled farmers to market their products locally and export the surplus. He considered that these combined projects strengthen the economic infrastructure of the Region and reinforce the foundations of food security.
He concluded his speech by expressing his satisfaction that the project has created more than 1,000 job opportunities for citizens. He wished the project’s management continued success and expressed his hope that similar projects would continue to be implemented throughout Kurdistan.
