Kurdistan Regional Government Welcomes Federal Cabinet’s Approval of Salary Agreement
Erbil, Kurdistan Region – The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has welcomed the Iraqi federal cabinet’s approval of a mutual understanding regarding the disbursement of salaries and financial entitlements to the Kurdistan Region.
In a statement issued on Thursday, July 17, KRG Prime Minister Masrour Barzani emphasized that the regional government had shown "the utmost flexibility" in fulfilling its obligations and expressed hope that the federal government would now proceed with sending the overdue salaries to Kurdistan’s public sector employees.
Barzani thanked the people of the Kurdistan Region for their patience amid months of financial hardship and acknowledged the efforts of political figures and stakeholders who contributed to resolving the crisis. He stressed that salary payments—a constitutional right for Kurdistan’s citizens—should not be tied to political disputes and called for all outstanding issues to be resolved within the framework of Iraq’s constitution and signed agreements.
Additionally, the KRG leader urged stronger cooperation with Baghdad to counter recent terrorist attacks targeting the Kurdistan Region, particularly its oil infrastructure. He called on the federal government to help identify and prosecute those responsible.
