Erbil Governor Announces Start of Land Distribution Next Week
Erbil Governor Omid Khoshnaw announced on Tuesday that the distribution of residential land plots will begin next week, benefiting tens of thousands of eligible citizens.
In a statement to BasNews, Khoshnaw confirmed that the distribution will include employees, retirees, Peshmerga forces, and personnel of internal institutions within Erbil city center. Approximately 60,000 individuals inside the city and 45,000 outside are expected to benefit from the initiative.
"Although procedures may not be fully completed this week, the actual distribution process will commence next week within the capital," Khoshnaw stated.
The governor emphasized that the distribution will be carried out systematically through municipal authorities, covering only pre-planned and ready-to-use land plots. Government teams are working around the clock to finalize all necessary procedures, he added.
Under the decision, each eligible employee, retiree, teacher, Peshmerga member, or Interior Ministry affiliate with at least eight years of service—who has not previously benefited from land distribution projects—will receive a 200-square-meter plot.
Khoshnaw stressed that this project goes beyond mere registration, ensuring beneficiaries receive their property deeds and exact locations in line with an official decree from the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).
The KRG Council of Ministers initially approved the land grant on March 27, 2024, for employees who had not previously received such benefits. The Ministry of Municipalities later issued an official directive (No. 2 of 2024) on May 31, 2024, outlining the distribution mechanism.
