Two Iraqi Nationals Killed in Southern Turkey, Perpetrator Arrested

The Iraqi Foreign Ministry confirmed on Friday that two Iraqi citizens were killed in southern Turkey following an altercation with a Turkish national. The victims, identified as brothers Yousef and Mohammed Rawe, were fatally shot in Şanlıurfa (Riha) province, according to Turkish media reports on Thursday. The motive behind the attack remains unclear.

In a statement, the Iraqi Foreign Ministry expressed "deep regret over the unfortunate incident... which resulted in the killing of two members of the honorable Iraqi community." The ministry confirmed that the suspect has been arrested and is under interrogation by Turkish authorities.

Iraqi officials said they are committed to "following up on the case through diplomatic channels and in coordination with the relevant authorities in the Republic of Turkey, in a manner that preserves the rights of Iraqi citizens and maintains their dignity."

Turkish authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident.

Turkey is a popular travel destination for Iraqis, with many visiting for tourism, business, and medical treatment. The killing has raised concerns among the Iraqi community, prompting calls for a thorough investigation.
