Erdogan Warns Against

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan delivered a fiery speech at the 51st Session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers on Saturday, calling for greater Islamic unity against Israeli aggression and cautioning against attempts to impose a "new Sykes-Picot order" in the Middle East.

Drawing stark historical parallels, Erdogan likened current regional tensions to the 1916 Sykes-Picot Agreement, which divided Ottoman territories between British and French spheres of influence after World War I. He framed today’s conflicts as part of a broader effort to redraw Middle Eastern borders through force.

"As Türkiye, I firmly stress that we will not allow the establishment of a new Sykes-Picot order in our region, with borders redrawn in blood," Erdogan declared before the gathering of Islamic foreign ministers.

The Turkish leader also drew controversial comparisons between the ongoing war in Gaza and historical atrocities, claiming that "two million of our brothers and sisters in Gaza have been struggling to survive for 21 months under conditions worse than those of Nazi concentration camps."

In one of his most provocative remarks, Erdogan directly equated Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Adolf Hitler, warning of catastrophic consequences.

"Just as the spark ignited by Hitler 90 years ago set the world ablaze, Netanyahu's Zionist ambitions serve no purpose other than dragging the world into catastrophe," he said, positioning the current Middle East crisis within a broader historical narrative of global instability.

Erdogan’s speech underscored his long-standing criticism of Israel and Western influence in the region, reinforcing his call for Muslim-majority nations to unite against what he described as oppressive geopolitical designs. The address is expected to intensify diplomatic tensions as regional conflicts continue to escalate.

The OIC meeting, hosted in Istanbul, brought together foreign ministers from across the Islamic world to discuss collective responses to the Gaza war and other pressing regional issues. Erdogan’s rhetoric signals a hardening stance as Türkiye seeks to position itself as a leading voice against Israeli policies and Western intervention in the Middle East.
