Prime Minister Masrour Barzani Congratulates Lee Jae-myung on Election as South Korean President
Erbil, Kurdistan Region – Prime Minister Masrour Barzani of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq extended his congratulations to Lee Jae-myung on his election as the new President of the Republic of Korea.
In a tweet, PM Barzani expressed his optimism for stronger bilateral relations, stating: "Congratulations to Lee Jae-myung on your election as President of the Republic of Korea. I look forward to strengthening the partnership between our governments and deepening the longstanding friendship between our peoples."
The message highlights the Kurdistan Regional Government’s commitment to enhancing cooperation with South Korea, a key partner in trade, investment, and development projects. South Korea has been actively involved in infrastructure and energy initiatives in the Kurdistan Region, and both sides have sought to expand ties in recent years.
Lee Jae-myung, the former governor of Gyeonggi Province and a prominent political figure, won the presidential election amid high voter turnout. His administration is expected to focus on economic reforms and foreign policy engagement.
Analysts suggest that PM Barzani’s congratulatory message signals the Kurdistan Region’s intent to further diplomatic and economic collaboration with Seoul under the new leadership.
Congratulations Lee Jae-myung on your election as President of the Republic of Korea.
