Russian Airstrikes Kill Civilians Across Ukraine; Moscow Claims Drone Interceptions

Overnight Russian aerial attacks have killed multiple people in several regions of Ukraine, including near the capital, Kyiv, officials reported on Sunday. Meanwhile, Russian authorities claimed to have intercepted a dozen drones targeting Moscow, as both sides confirmed the completion of a major prisoner exchange.

Ukrainian officials said Russian strikes hit residential areas, resulting in civilian deaths and injuries. The Kyiv region was among the areas targeted, with local authorities reporting damage to infrastructure and ongoing rescue operations.

"Russian forces continue to terrorize our cities and villages," said, urging Western allies to expedite additional air defense systems.

Russian defense officials reported that at least a dozen Ukrainian drones were shot down overnight in the Moscow region. No casualties or significant damage were reported. The attacks come amid a surge in drone warfare, with both sides increasingly targeting each other’s territories.

In a rare diplomatic development, Ukraine and Russia confirmed the completion of a large-scale prisoner swap agreed upon earlier this month. The exchange, mediated by a third party, saw dozens of soldiers and civilians returned to each side.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky hailed the return of the prisoners as a "moral victory," while Russian officials framed the move as a humanitarian gesture.

The overnight violence underscores the ongoing intensity of the war, now in its third year, with no immediate signs of de-escalation.
