Kurdistan Region PM Barzani Meets U.S. Senator Hagerty to Strengthen Bilateral Ties
Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani met with U.S. Senator Bill Hagerty (R-TN) on Wednesday in Washington to discuss bolstering bilateral relations and the latest developments in Iraq and the wider region, the KRG announced.
The talks highlighted the growing partnership between the Kurdistan Region and the United States, particularly in trade, energy, and investment. Senator Hagerty praised a recent energy agreement between the KRG and two American companies, calling it a major step toward expanding economic cooperation.
Prime Minister Barzani thanked the U.S. for its continued support and stressed the importance of strengthening strategic ties, particularly in economic development and regional security. Both sides emphasized the need to protect the Kurdistan Region’s constitutional rights and federal status within Iraq, underscoring mutual respect as key to long-term stability.
The meeting is part of Barzani’s U.S. visit aimed at reinforcing international partnerships and attracting investment to the Kurdistan Region.
