Kurdistan Region PM Barzani Meets U.S. Senator Ted Budd to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani held talks with U.S. Senator Ted Budd (R-NC) on Wednesday as part of his official visit to Washington, the KRG announced.

The meeting focused on reinforcing U.S.-Kurdistan relations, with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to deepening cooperation. Senator Budd reiterated Washington’s support for the Peshmerga forces, praising their vital role in ensuring regional security and countering terrorism.

Discussions also addressed ongoing disputes between the Kurdistan Region and Iraq’s federal government. Barzani and Budd emphasized the need to uphold the Region’s constitutional rights within Iraq’s federal framework and stressed dialogue as the key to resolving outstanding issues.

Economic reforms were another key topic, with Barzani outlining the KRG’s efforts to modernize infrastructure, revamp the energy and electricity sectors, and upgrade the banking system to attract foreign investment.

The visit underscores Barzani’s push to bolster international partnerships and secure sustained support for the Kurdistan Region’s stability and development. His engagements in Washington are expected to include further high-level meetings with U.S. officials and policymakers.
