Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Inspects Progress of 24-Hour Electricity Project in Dohuk
Erbil, Kurdistan Region – Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani visited the city of Dohuk today to assess the ongoing implementation of the Ronaki project, a major initiative aimed at providing uninterrupted 24-hour electricity to residents across the Kurdistan Region.
During his tour of the Broshki neighborhood, PM Barzani inspected homes, businesses, and bakeries that have already begun benefiting from the project. He engaged with citizens, who expressed satisfaction with the improved power supply and commended the government’s efforts to address long-standing electricity shortages.
In a press statement, the Prime Minister confirmed that the Ronaki project is being rolled out in phases, with current coverage focused on urban centers. He announced that by the end of 2026, all cities, towns, and villages in the Kurdistan Region will have access to 24-hour electricity.
Barzani urged citizens to use electricity responsibly, emphasizing the need to avoid waste to ensure the sustainability of the power supply. He also reassured residents that electricity tariffs under the new system would remain affordable, costing less than the combined expenses of relying on private generators and the national grid.
To date, approximately 600,000 people have benefited from the Ronaki project, with the number expected to reach one million by the end of May. The government anticipates full coverage of all major cities by the end of this year, with complete regional implementation by late 2026.
In addition to the infrastructure upgrades, the KRG plans to announce further support measures, including financial assistance and incentives, to ease the transition for households and businesses.
The Ronaki project marks a significant step in the KRG’s efforts to modernize infrastructure and improve living standards in the Kurdistan Region.
