Kurdistan Region Leaders Congratulate Friedrich Merz on Election as German Chancellor
President Nechirvan Barzani and Prime Minister Masrour Barzani of the Kurdistan Region have extended their congratulations to Friedrich Merz on his election as the new Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany.
President Nechirvan Barzani expressed his well wishes for Chancellor Merz’s success, stating, “I congratulate Friedrich Merz on his election as Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany. I wish him every success in his new role. The Kurdistan Region values its close partnership with Germany and looks forward to strengthening our cooperation.”

Prime Minister Masrour Barzani also congratulated the newly elected Chancellor in a message posted on social media, saying, “Congratulations @_FriedrichMerz on your election as the new Chancellor of Germany. I’m confident your leadership will open new opportunities to strengthen the partnership between the Kurdistan Region and Germany.”
Germany has been a key partner to the Kurdistan Region in areas including humanitarian support, security cooperation, and economic development. Both Kurdish leaders emphasized the importance of continuing and deepening this partnership under Chancellor Merz’s leadership.
