Iraq’s Electoral Commission Reports Over 540,000 Voter Registration Updates

The High Electoral Commission (IHEC) announced on Wednesday that more than 540,000 updates have been processed at voter registration centers across Iraq. The updates include new voter registrations, data modifications, and death notifications, as part of preparations for upcoming elections.

According to IHEC spokesperson Jumana al-Ghalay, a total of 1,079 registration centers have recorded updates, with eligible voters including new registrants born in 2007, individuals adjusting their personal information, and families reporting deceased relatives to ensure accurate voter rolls.

In a notable update, the Commission confirmed that voters may transfer their registration between four governorates—Nineveh, Salahuddin, Anbar, and Kirkuk—provided they possess a ration card issued before December 9, 2013. This measure aims to facilitate voting for displaced individuals and long-term residents who have relocated.

Al-Ghalay urged citizens to verify their registration details at the nearest center to ensure their eligibility in the forthcoming polls. The IHEC’s efforts come as part of broader electoral reforms to enhance transparency and public participation in Iraq’s democratic process.
