First Women’s Conference Held Under Barzani’s Patronage to Address Gender Challenges
Erbil, Kurdistan Region – The first-ever women’s conference, organized under the patronage of Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani, commenced today in Erbil, with a focus on tackling gender-related challenges within the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and government institutions.
The event, held on Sunday, was announced by Jwan Younis Rozhbayani, a member of the KDP’s Central Committee, who outlined that the conference will revolve around five key themes, with all recommendations set to be formalized as actionable resolutions.
Conference Aims to Strengthen Women’s Role in Politics and Society
Rozhbayani emphasized that the conference seeks to shed light on systemic challenges faced by women within the KDP and government bodies. “The KDP has always prioritized women’s empowerment,” she said, recalling that the party was the first in Kurdistan to establish a dedicated women’s organization under the late Barzani’s leadership.
Five Key Themes Under Discussion
The conference will address critical issues through five main themes:
Government and Parliament – Enhancing women’s representation and policy influence.
Party Organization – Strengthening women’s roles within KDP structures.
Elections and Regional Presidency – Ensuring fair participation in leadership roles.
Kurdistan Women’s Union – Expanding advocacy and support networks.
Social Media – Leveraging digital platforms for awareness and engagement.
Resolutions to Be Implemented Under Barzani’s Supervision
Rozhbayani confirmed that the conference outcomes would be transformed into binding resolutions, with some requiring legislative action in parliament and others to be enforced within party institutions. She stressed that President Barzani will personally oversee the implementation, underscoring his commitment to addressing women’s issues.
“These resolutions are the result of months of research and consultations,” Rozhbayani added. “Once approved, they will be officially enacted to drive tangible progress.”
A Step Forward for Gender Equality in Kurdistan
The conference marks a significant step in Kurdistan’s efforts to advance gender equality, with expectations high that the adopted measures will lead to meaningful reforms in women’s political and social participation.
Further updates on the conference’s resolutions and implementation plans are expected in the coming days.
