Kurdistan Region’s Minister of Interior, Reber Ahmed, is playing a central role at the Border Security Summit in London, where global leaders have gathered to address the growing challenge of organized crime linked to migration.
Invited by the UK government, Minister Ahmed is representing the Kurdistan Region alongside officials from more than 40 countries, including ministers of interior and justice from Iraq, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, China, and Bulgaria. His participation highlights the Kurdistan Region’s growing role in international efforts to combat human trafficking and strengthen border security.
On the sidelines of the summit’s opening ceremony, Minister Ahmed held high-level meetings with UK Home Secretary Yvette Cooper, as well as senior officials from several European nations. The discussions focused on intelligence-sharing, border enforcement strategies, and coordinated efforts to dismantle human trafficking networks.
Minister Ahmed is also set to deliver a speech during the first panel discussion of the summit, which is chaired by UK Home Secretary Cooper. His address is expected to highlight the Kurdistan Region’s experiences in managing migration challenges, its role in preventing illegal crossings, and the importance of international cooperation in tackling organized crime.
The UK Home Office has described the summit as "the first major international gathering in the UK to address the global emergency of illegal migration." Discussions will center on cracking down on criminal networks that exploit migration routes, including smuggling operations that transport migrants across borders into the UK.
