Syrian Kurdistan Front: Transitional Government Lacks Legitimacy, Excludes National Diversity

The Syrian Kurdistan Front stated today that the transitional government announced in Damascus was not the result of national consensus and does not reflect the true representation of Syria’s ethnic diversity. The Front emphasized that this government cannot gain legitimacy as long as it excludes representatives of various Syrian components, including the Kurds.

In a statement obtained by Gulanmedia, the Front said: "After the fall of the regime, the Syrian people hoped this phase would mark the end of dictatorship and the beginning of a pluralistic, democratic state. However, what has happened since then—the formation of an interim government, the so-called national dialogue process, and now the transitional government—confirms that the current administration is moving toward a new authoritarianism under an Islamic guise, rather than establishing genuine national partnership."

The statement added: "This announced government did not emerge from national consensus and does not truly represent the country’s ethnic diversity. It cannot gain any legitimacy as long as it excludes representatives of different Syrian components, including the Kurds."

The Front noted that "appointing individuals to this government does not necessarily mean representing all components, as no single person can claim to speak for a people without being the product of a genuine, democratic consultative process."

It stressed that "any legitimate transitional government must be the outcome of a comprehensive national dialogue, ensuring fair representation for all components and laying the foundation for a new phase based on democracy, pluralism, and real partnership."

The statement concluded: "We reiterate that Syria’s future cannot be built on exclusion and marginalization, but only through a national dialogue that establishes justice and equality, guaranteeing all Syrians their rights without discrimination. Therefore, we reaffirm—as we have always done—that a federal system is the best framework for Syria today, one that can represent all components and safeguard everyone’s rights."
