KDP President Inaugurates MEETS Iraq Exhibition, Highlights Education Reforms & Global Collaboration

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq: The second Middle East Education, Technology & Students (MEETS Iraq) Exhibition was inaugurated in Erbil today by Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) President Masoud Barzani. The event witnessed the participation of 120 educational institutions, including universities, colleges, schools, and institutes from over 10 countries. Distinguished government ministers and diplomats were also present at the inauguration ceremony.

During his visit, President Barzani toured the exhibition, taking a keen interest in the innovative educational initiatives showcased by the participating institutions. The exhibition is expected to run for three days, providing a platform for educational institutions to exchange ideas and collaborate on various educational projects.

Notably, the Kurdistan Education Forum was inaugurated in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region for the first time during this momentous occasion. This forum is aimed at fostering educational advancements and opportunities for students, promoting academic excellence and inclusivity.

In his opening remarks, Alan Hama Saeed, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Minister of Education, highlighted the significant efforts made by the Ninth Cabinet to reform the education sector. Emphasizing the government's commitment to providing equal opportunities to all students, Minister Saeed stressed the importance of eliminating any form of discrimination in the educational system.

The Kurdistan Region has played a vital role in hosting internally displaced students, accommodating a staggering 152,000 individuals in 140 schools. This influx of displaced students led the Ministry of Education to adopt a double-shift system in some educational institutions to cater to the vulnerable population. Minister Saeed commended the unwavering support extended by KDP President Masoud Barzani to the displaced population that sought refuge in the Kurdistan Region in 2014.

To further enhance the education sector, the government has put forth an Education Law bill to the Kurdistan Parliament, which focuses on significant circular reforms to streamline and improve the educational landscape.

Minister Saeed also praised the efforts of Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, acknowledging his consistent support in advancing the Kurdish education system. Under his leadership, the Kurdistan Region has actively participated in various international initiatives aimed at fostering educational growth and development.

The MEETS Iraq Exhibition promises to be an enlightening event, providing a platform for collaboration and progress in the field of education. With the participation of educational institutions from across the Middle East, the exhibition holds the potential to create a transformative impact on the region's educational landscape.
