Unknown gunmen attacked KDP office in Sulaimani
Three armed men driving a Land Cruiser attacked the office at around 6am. “They did not cause any casualties but great material damage,” Sheikh Salah, head of the office, told Rudaw’s Horvan Rafaat.
The incident was recorded on CCTV, “but they had covered the vehicle’s plate number,” he added.
The security guards of the office responded to the attackers who were able to escape, according to Salah, who said this was “not the first time. It happened two to three other times.”
They have found at least 48 shell casings in the building.
The office is located in Sulaimani’s Azadi neighborhood on the 30-meter road. Similar attacks in the past have occurred and the KDP has accused the local security forces of being unable to secure their offices or arrest the perpetrators.
The Sulaimani offices of the Kurdistan Region’s ruling KDP, which has its support base in Duhok and Erbil provinces, have also been attacked by anti-government protesters during demonstrations over corruption, economic crises, and political tensions.
Rudaw English contacted Sulaimani police, but they were not available for comment.
