Tehran (dpa) - Imprisoned Iranian human rights activist Nasrin Sotoudeh has been given three days' leave from jail on medical grounds, according to her husband.

"Nasrin came out a few hours ago, she was given a three-day vacation to get medical treatment," Resa Chandan announced on Friday via Twitter, without giving further details of his wife's state of health.

However, he posted a picture of himself with the activist and their two children after her temporary release from in Gharchak prison south of Tehran.

Concerns have repeatedly been raised about Sotoudeh's health in recent months, especially after her nearly 50-day hunger strike last year in protest against conditions for political prisoners during the pandemic.

The 57-year-old suffers from a weak heart, because of which she was granted a month's leave from prison in November.

Sotoudeh is accused of "subversive propaganda." In 2018 she was sentenced to 33 years and six months in prison and 148 lashes by a revolutionary court. She must serve at least 12 years of her sentence.

Sotudeh denied all charges against her in court. She is only peacefully committed to women's rights and against the death penalty in Iran, she says. She and her husband are among the most renowned human rights activists in the country.
