ERBIL - The Islamic State (IS) jihadists on Tuesday night carried out an attack on the Iraqi army in Jalawla, with casualties confirmed.

Nihad Mohammed, a spokesperson for Diyala Police, confirmed the report to BasNews and said that the Iraqi army came under an IS attack near al-Halwan bridge, in Jalawla town of Khanaqin district.

At least two Iraqi soldiers were killed and another was wounded as a result of the attack, the police spokesperson explained.

"The Daesh terrorists escaped the scene after the attack," he said, adding that the Iraqi army soon sent reinforcements to the area.
