Berlin (dpa) - A car has crashed into the gate of Chancellor Angela Merkel's office in Berlin, a police spokesperson confirmed on Wednesday without giving further details.

Footage of the incident shared on social media showed police inspecting a vehicle with political slogans daubed on the body of the car.

One side read, "You damned children and old people murderers," and the other, "Stop globalization politics."

A dpa reporter at the scene said one person was injured and being treated in an ambulance.

The chancellery's metal gate was only slightly damaged.

Merkel is scheduled to hold a video conference with the premiers of Germany's 16 states later Wednesday to discuss the nation's response to the coronavirus pandemic.
