ERBIL - Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani has expressed "great concern" over the latest attacks on the international diplomatic missions and Coalition bases in Iraq.

"We follow with great concern latest threats & attacks against diplomatic missions & international coalition bases who are protecting Iraqis from terror," Barzani wrote on Twitter on Friday.

In addition to the fortified Green Zone in Baghdad, where the government's offices and US embassy are located, several Iraqi bases housing the US-led Coalition forces and the Baghdad International Airport have repeatedly come under rocket attacks within the past few weeks.

Barzani further expressed support to the efforts by the Iraqi leaders in hopes to prevent such attacks in the future.

"We support efforts of Iraqi leaders to prevent more attacks & stand ready to help ensure security & stability in the country."

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has already warned Iraqi President Barham Salih that Washington will close down the US embassy in Baghdad if the country fails to stop the attacks on the diplomatic building, and that the United States would target all involved militias without distinction.
