ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Kurdistan Region’s Ministry of Health on Saturday announced it had recorded 142 new coronavirus infections, 118 recoveries, and 11 deaths over the past 24 hours.

The ministry said in a statement that health workers had conducted 1,720 tests on people suspected of having COVID-19 during the same period.

Out of the new fatalities, four were from Erbil, six from Sulaimani, and one from Halabja, according to the ministry.

According to official data, authorities have confirmed 10,595 infections: 2,689 in Erbil, 7,232 in Sulaimani, 326 in Duhok, and 348 in Halabja. The health ministry's figures also showed that 5,805 patients had recovered so far and 4,388 cases remain active.

Earlier on Saturday, the province of Erbil decided to extend a partial curfew and a ban on movement between Erbil and other provinces in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq provinces until Tuesday, when the local government would issue new measures.

The Kurdistan Regional Government's anti-coronavirus committee is also scheduled to meet on Tuesday with heads of provincial governments and administrative units.

The meeting will discuss new decisions on air travel by the federal Iraqi government, and efforts to institute the necessary preparations. The body would also debate reopening public facilities and lifting partial curfews across the region.

On Thursday, The Iraqi government’s High National Health and Safety Committee announced that it was lifting some of the current coronavirus restrictions across the country, including allowing airports to reopen on July 23.
