Kosovo-Serbia summit with Macron, Merkel to relaunch talks
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Kosovan Prime Minister Avduallah Hoti are expected to join the French and German leaders, as well as EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell.
Kosovo, a former autonomous republic in Serbia, broke away in 1999 after NATO intervened to end the harsh repression of a rebellion by members of the ethnic Albanian majority.
Belgrade has never recognized Kosovo's independence, officially declared in 2008 and recognized by most EU member states and the United States.
Kosovo wants Serbia to stop its push for other countries to revoke their recognition and its campaign against Kosovo's admission to international organizations, notably the United Nations, where Belgrade's ally Russia has blocked its membership bid.
After Friday's video meeting, Vucic and Hoti will meet in person in Brussels on Sunday to get the dialogue going again, European Commission spokesperson Peter Stano announced on Monday.
