"The latest political and economic developments, the ongoing efforts to fill the vacant ministerial posts and finalization of Iraq’s newly formed government were discussed at the meeting," a statement by Barzani's office said.

The pair further shed light on the security developments in the country, including the recent Islamic State (IS) attacks in the territories disputed between Erbil and Baghdad.

"President Nechirvan Barzani and Secretary-General Al-Dhari also spoke about the vision of the Iraqi National Project with regard to the political process in the country and the developments in the wider region," the statement concluded.
