PM Barzani Says KRG Committed to Gender Equality and Women Empowerment
ERBIL — Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani released a statement on the occasion of International Women’s Day on 8 March, reiterating his government’s commitment to gender equality, women’s rights and empowerment.

“The women of Kurdistan played an effective and valuable role in the freedom movement of the peoples of Kurdistan, and they fought against oppression and occupation,” reads the statement by PM Barzani.

The Kurdish leader also highlighted the role of women in uniforms, saying their sacrifices in the Peshmerga battles against the Islamic State (IS) and the previous Kurdish revolutions “is highly valued”.

“We reiterate the commitment of Kurdistan Regional Government to the human rights in general, and women’s rights in particular. [The KRG is] also committed to provide equal opportunities so women will contribute to different walks of life,” PM Barzani added.
