Barzani Refutes Reports Claiming Disputes with Allawi for Personal Interests
The statement calls the reports as “unfounded and baseless”, noting that Barzani is concerned about the mechanism of forming the government as well as the cabinet’s agenda led by the Iraqi PM-designate.
“This mechanism fails to take into consideration the rights and demands of different components [of Iraq], including the Kurdistan Region,” reads the statement. “This will certainly lead to further political crisis in Iraq.”
Barzani Headquarter reasserts that the Kurdish leader insists on the principles of partnership, political balance, and consensus in the process of forming the new government of Iraq.
“As there are certain political sides who nominated Mr. Allawi for the position of premiership, the Kurdistan Region has the right to make nominations for ministerial posts, and this right should be preserved,” the statement concludes.
With many political factions concerned about Allawi’s maneuvers for forming the new Iraqi government, the PM-designate has pledged to announce the cabinet on Thursday when the parliament is set to vote on the lineup of his cabinet.
