Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani has commemorated the 43rd anniversary of the Barzani Anfal campaign, paying tribute to the 8,000 civilians who lost their lives during one of the darkest chapters in Kurdish history. In a statement issued on the occasion, he honored the victims and reaffirmed the Kurdistan Region's commitment to preserving their memory and pursuing justice for their families.

The President described the Barzani Anfal campaign as a profound tragedy that continues to leave an enduring mark on the conscience of the Kurdish nation. He praised the resilience of the Barzani mothers and wives, who, despite immense hardship and loss, raised their children with determination and dignity, ultimately thwarting the former regime's attempt to erase the Kurdish people.

He emphasized that these women not only endured unimaginable suffering but also nurtured a generation committed to the future of Kurdistan. The President expressed his deepest respect and gratitude for their courage and sacrifices.

Reaffirming the importance of justice and accountability, the Kurdistan Region President stated that the Iraqi government continues to bear both a moral and legal responsibility to compensate the families of the Anfal victims and all those affected by the crimes committed by the former regime.

He further stressed that the painful experiences of the past should serve as lessons for the future by promoting a culture of coexistence, mutual acceptance, and understanding among all communities in Iraq. According to the President, these values are essential for strengthening unity and achieving lasting peace.

The Kurdistan Region President also expressed appreciation to the people of Erbil province and neighboring areas who welcomed and supported displaced Barzani families during the difficult years following the campaign, recognizing their generosity and solidarity.
