Erbil–Duhok Road Set to Become Fully Dual Carriageway as Ba'adre–Etit Project Nears Completion

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has announced that the strategic Ba'adre–Etit Dual Carriageway Project is progressing steadily, with 80% of the overall construction now complete. Once finished, the entire Erbil–Duhok highway will become a dual carriageway, marking a major milestone in the Kurdistan Region's transport infrastructure.

The 26-kilometer project is one of the KRG's flagship strategic infrastructure initiatives, designed to improve connectivity between Erbil and Duhok, enhance road safety, reduce travel times, and support economic growth by facilitating the movement of people and goods.

Key Progress Highlights

80% of the project has been completed.
The project is being executed in three phases, with the first phase 95% complete, while the remaining phases are in their final stages.
More than 2,000 local workers and engineers are engaged in the project, supported by approximately 1,500 heavy construction machines operating on site.
The new highway features a dual carriageway approximately 13 meters wide on each side, together with 30 kilometers of service roads.
Construction includes 11 overpasses and underpasses to improve traffic flow and safety at major intersections.
Engineering works also comprise 100 drainage culverts for effective rainwater management, 6 million cubic meters of excavation, 6 kilometers of retaining walls, and the use of 45,000 tons of reinforcing steel (rebar).
To ensure timely delivery and high construction standards, the project is supported by six concrete production plants operating continuously throughout the construction period.

Upon completion, the Ba'adre–Etit project will complete the transformation of the Erbil–Duhok route into a fully dual carriageway, significantly improving transportation efficiency, reducing traffic accidents, and strengthening trade and economic activity across the Kurdistan Region.

The Kurdistan Regional Government reaffirmed its commitment to investing in strategic infrastructure projects that enhance public services, improve regional connectivity, and support the long-term economic development of the Kurdistan Region.
