PM Barzani Inaugurates Iraq’s Highest Bridge in Major Infrastructure Project in Soran
Masrour Barzani on Thursday inaugurated the dual Forty Bridge and Road Project in Soran, describing it as a landmark achievement in the Kurdistan Region’s ongoing drive to modernize infrastructure and improve transportation networks.
The project, which includes what officials described as the highest bridge in Iraq, is regarded as one of the most significant strategic infrastructure developments in the region in recent years. The inauguration ceremony was attended by government officials, engineers, administrators, and local residents.
Speaking during the ceremony, the Prime Minister said the project reflects the Kurdistan Regional Government’s continued commitment to reconstruction and public service despite economic and security challenges faced over the past decade, including the war against Daesh (ISIS).
“This project represents only the first phase of broader strategic plans that will further serve the region and its citizens,” Barzani said.
The Prime Minister praised the quality and professionalism of the project’s implementation, commending the efforts of the local contractor, Kavin Group, and emphasizing the growing role of local expertise in executing major development projects across the Kurdistan Region.
“One of our greatest sources of pride is relying on local talents and capabilities to carry out projects of this scale and quality,” he stated.
The Forty Bridge and Road Project is expected to improve transportation flow, strengthen connectivity in the mountainous Soran area, and support tourism and economic activity in one of the Kurdistan Region’s most scenic destinations.
Barzani also thanked engineers, workers, administrators, and all teams involved in completing the project, while expressing appreciation to the people of Kurdistan for their continued support and confidence in the government’s development agenda.
During his remarks, the Prime Minister additionally expressed condolences to the families of victims of recent drowning incidents and praised civil defense teams for their rescue efforts, urging citizens to follow safety instructions near rivers and waterways.
On broader political developments, Barzani briefly addressed the formation of Iraq’s upcoming federal government in Baghdad, reiterating that the Kurdistan Region’s participation in federal institutions aims to ensure the implementation of constitutional rights and equal provision of services across Iraq.
