Pakistan and Afghan Taliban Agree to Temporary Eid Ceasefire
Pakistan and the Taliban administration in Afghanistan have agreed to a temporary suspension of cross-border military operations to mark the end of Ramadan and the upcoming celebration of Eid al‑Fitr.
Officials from both sides announced on Wednesday that the ceasefire will begin at midnight Wednesday and last until midnight Monday, describing it as a gesture of goodwill during the Islamic holiday period.
The pause in hostilities reportedly came at the request of several Muslim countries, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Turkey.
Pakistan’s Information Minister, Attaullah Tarar, stated that the ceasefire is a goodwill gesture consistent with Islamic traditions.
However, he warned that the truce is conditional.
According to Tarar, any cross-border attacks, drone strikes, or terrorist incidents inside Pakistan would immediately end the pause and trigger the resumption of military operations with greater intensity.
