Prime Minister Barzani Meets Turkish Consul General in Erbil to Boost Cooperation Amid Regional Challenges
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Tuesday held official talks with Erman Topçu, the Consul General of Türkiye in Erbil, in a meeting aimed at reviewing regional developments and strengthening bilateral cooperation across key sectors.
During the meeting, both leaders assessed the broader situation in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and neighbouring areas, with discussions centering on expanding collaboration in political, economic, and security fields. They underscored the importance of enhanced coordination to address ongoing tensions and safeguard regional stability, particularly in light of repeated security incidents and mounting pressure on peace and security.
Prime Minister Barzani and Consul General Topçu emphasized the urgent need to end ongoing conflicts and highlighted that continued dialogue and cooperation are essential to maintaining stability in a region facing complex challenges.
The talks reflect the long-standing strategic and economic ties between the Kurdistan Region and Türkiye, with the two sides reaffirming their commitment to deepen engagement in areas such as security coordination, economic development, and crisis management. Türkiye remains one of the Region’s key trading partners, with significant Turkish involvement in energy, infrastructure, and cross-border commerce.
