Kurdish Leaders Mark International Women’s Day, Praise Role of Women
Kurdish leaders on Sunday issued messages marking International Women’s Day, praising the role and sacrifices of women in Kurdistan and reaffirming their support for women’s rights and equality.
In a message posted on the social media platform X, Masoud Barzani, leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), congratulated women in Kurdistan, Iraq, and around the world on the occasion.
“On the occasion of March 8, International Women’s Day, I extend my congratulations to the women of Kurdistan, Iraq and the world,” Barzani wrote. He expressed appreciation for the role and sacrifices of Kurdish women, saying they have always been a fundamental part of the Kurdish people’s struggle and resilience.
In a separate statement, Nechirvan Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Region, also congratulated women in Kurdistan, Iraq, and across the world. He wished them continued success in their efforts to achieve justice and equality.
Nechirvan Barzani said women in Kurdistan have historically played both revolutionary and peace-seeking roles, demonstrating remarkable courage and perseverance.
He added that as the Kurdistan Region continues strengthening its institutions, women’s active participation in politics, the Peshmerga forces, the economy, governance, and education remains a source of pride.
Meanwhile, Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, also marked the occasion in a message on X, congratulating women in Kurdistan and around the world.
“Happy International Women’s Day to all the women of Kurdistan and the world,” the prime minister wrote, praising the struggle, perseverance, and important role of Kurdish women and reaffirming his support for their legitimate demands and rights.
