Israel Pushes for Broader Iran Deal as Trump Says No Final Agreement Reached

Israel is seeking to ensure that any future nuclear agreement with Iran goes beyond limiting Tehran’s nuclear capabilities, urging that it also address the country’s ballistic missile program and its support for armed proxy groups across the Middle East.

The issue was discussed during talks on Wednesday between US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Following the meeting, Trump said no definitive agreement had been reached regarding a unified strategy on Iran.

“There was nothing definitive reached other than I insisted that negotiations with Iran continue to see whether or not a deal can be consummated,” Trump said in a post on social media after the talks.

Israel has consistently argued that Iran’s regional activities pose a broader security challenge that cannot be separated from its nuclear ambitions. Israeli officials have long maintained that Tehran’s development of long-range missiles and its backing of groups operating in Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, and Gaza must be included in any comprehensive agreement.

Netanyahu has repeatedly described the prospect of a nuclear-armed Iran as an existential threat to Israel. He has also been a vocal critic of previous international agreements with Tehran, arguing they failed to adequately curb Iran’s military capabilities and regional influence.

While Washington and Tehran have engaged in diplomatic efforts in recent years, significant differences remain over the scope and conditions of any renewed deal. The latest discussions underscore ongoing coordination between the United States and Israel, even as questions persist over how far negotiations with Iran should extend.
