Prime Minister Masrour Barzani Holds Series of High-Level Meetings in Davos
Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Tuesday held a series of high-level bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, focusing on strengthening international relations, expanding economic cooperation, and addressing regional security challenges.
The Prime Minister met with Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, where both leaders emphasized the importance of further strengthening bilateral relations, particularly in the areas of investment and trade. President Aliyev highlighted the longstanding and friendly ties between the peoples of Azerbaijan and Kurdistan, invited Prime Minister Barzani to visit Baku, and expressed Azerbaijan’s readiness to open a Consulate General in Erbil. Prime Minister Barzani reaffirmed the Kurdistan Region’s commitment to enhancing cooperation and coordination with Azerbaijan. The meeting also addressed regional developments, especially the situation in Syria, with the Prime Minister expressing concern over ongoing violence and military escalation.
Prime Minister Barzani also met with Vahagn Khachaturyan, President of the Republic of Armenia. Their discussions focused on enhancing bilateral relations and reviewing developments in Iraq and the wider region. President Khachaturyan expressed his gratitude for the Kurdistan Region’s support and protection of the rights of the Armenian community and invited the Prime Minister to visit Yerevan.
In another meeting, Prime Minister Barzani met with Maxime Prévot, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belgium. Both sides stressed the importance of strengthening relations between the Kurdistan Region and Belgium, particularly by expanding cooperation in investment and trade. Deputy Prime Minister Prévot reaffirmed Belgium’s support for the Kurdistan Region. The talks also covered the situation in Iraq and the region, including confronting the threats posed by ISIS terrorists. Both sides voiced concern over the clashes and military escalation in Syria and warned of the danger of an ISIS resurgence, emphasizing the need for enhanced international cooperation and coordination.
The Prime Minister concluded his meetings with Christian Stocker, Federal Chancellor of the Republic of Austria. They discussed developments in Iraq and the region and stressed the importance of strengthening bilateral relations between the Kurdistan Region and Austria. Both sides agreed on further developing cooperation and coordination between the Kurdistan Region and European Union member states to confront the threats posed by ISIS terrorists.
