In this exclusive conversation with Gulan Media, Marta Psicho reflects on her artistic journey, her relationship with Eastern music, and the deeper message she seeks to convey through the violin.

Gulan: How did your artistic journey with the violin begin, and what challenges did you face along the way?

Marta Psicho: I began studying piano at the age of six, but after a few years I realized that the violin was my true instrument. From my very first violin lesson at the age of ten, I fell completely in love.

The journey was not easy. Music demands commitment, sacrifice, and continuous discipline. However, every effort was rewarded, because the violin allowed me to express everything I carried inside. I often say that the violin chose me. From childhood, I was fascinated by its emotional range—delicate and sweet, yet also intense and passionate.

A defining moment came during my teenage years when I performed on stage as a soloist for the first time. I felt deeply that this was my place in the world. From that moment on, I knew I wanted to dedicate my life to this instrument.

Gulan: Who are the artists who have most influenced you?

Marta Psicho: I have drawn inspiration from many sources, but the most important influences are reflected directly in my artistic name: Sarasate, Ysaÿe, Kreutzer, and Oistrakh. These great masters shaped my musical vision and encouraged me to develop my own artistic language rather than simply imitate tradition.

Gulan: How close are you to Eastern art and Kurdish music?

Marta Psicho: Although I have not yet directly explored Kurdish music, Eastern musical traditions deeply attract me because of their emotional intensity and expressive depth. Music in many Eastern cultures functions as a form of resistance, identity, and spiritual connection, and that resonates strongly with me.

At some point in my artistic life, I certainly want to explore this vast and rich musical world more deeply.

Gulan: What impact has technological advancement had on music today?

Marta Psicho: Technology has transformed music in countless ways. It has opened limitless possibilities for creation, recording, and global distribution, allowing artists to reach audiences everywhere.

At the same time, it presents a challenge: preserving authenticity and human emotion in a world driven by speed, trends, and digital immediacy. I believe the key lies in balance—using technology as a tool while maintaining a strong personal identity. Technology should serve as a bridge to preserve and share original music, not erase its roots.

Gulan: Have social media platforms helped you expand your artistic reach?

Marta Psicho: Absolutely. Social media has been fundamental to my professional life. It has allowed me to share my music globally and build a community that grows every day. For me, these platforms are not merely promotional tools; they are a direct bridge to people who feel and connect with my art.

Through this connection, I have been invited to perform in countries such as Mexico, Peru, Qatar, the United States, Chile, and Ecuador, which has been an incredible journey.

Gulan: How do you maintain balance between your personal and artistic life?

Marta Psicho: Balance comes from love for what you do. The violin demands discipline and consistency, but I have learned to value personal and family time as well. I try to create space for both every day, because I believe a peaceful and fulfilled life is reflected in the music we create.

Gulan: Is there a particularly memorable experience you have had while performing?

Marta Psicho: Every concert is unique, but one of the most meaningful experiences was performing during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Seeing hundreds of people from different countries dancing, singing, and enjoying Ecuadorian music together was truly unforgettable.

That moment confirmed for me that music has no borders—it unites us all in a shared human celebration.

Gulan: What are your dreams as a violinist?

Marta Psicho: I want to continue elevating the violin to new artistic levels by blending classical and contemporary elements, the academic and the popular. My goal is not only to innovate musically but also visually and emotionally—creating immersive experiences that bring art closer to people.

For me, true creativity means authenticity and emotional impact: empowering audiences to recognize themselves in the music they hear.

Gulan: What message do you seek to convey through your art?

Music is a universal language that transcends borders, cultures, and languages. Through the violin, I want to inspire people to feel deeply and to dream freely.

My greatest hope is that every note I play carries a message of hope, human connection, and freedom—and reminds us all of art’s power to heal and transform.
