Barzani Charity Foundation Delivers 161 Projects Amidst Challenges in 2025

Erbil, Kurdistan Region – The Barzani Charity Foundation (BCF) successfully executed 161 strategic humanitarian and development projects across the Kurdistan Region in 2025, with total expenditures surpassing 41.7 billion Iraqi dinars, the organization announced on Friday.

Speaking at a year-end press conference, BCF President Musa Ahmad detailed the foundation’s work across 10 key sectors, underscoring its commitment to serving vulnerable communities, including refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs), despite significant financial and political headwinds.

Ahmad described the past year as "exceptionally difficult" for residents of the region’s 27 refugee and IDP camps. He pointed to a sharp decline in international aid and criticized the Iraqi Ministry of Migration and Displacement for what he termed a "lack of engagement" in meeting its obligations toward displaced families.

Further complicating relief efforts, Ahmad noted that geopolitical shifts, including administrative changes in the United States, led to the suspension of over 19 vital projects within the camps, adversely affecting both beneficiaries and humanitarian operations.

Despite these setbacks, the foundation maintained a robust operational presence. Its 2025 initiatives included substantial food security programs, distributing 106,313 cartons of food and 50,292 prepared meals during Ramadan alone. Additional projects provided support for people with disabilities, ran rehabilitation programs for those battling drug addiction, and delivered a wide array of social services.

"The total cost of projects implemented this year reached 41,702,286,000 Iraqi Dinars," Ahmad stated. He emphasized that the foundation would persevere in its mission with a "Peshmerga spirit," highlighting resilience and dedication in the face of adversity.

Looking to the future, Ahmad said the BCF plans to intensify its focus in 2026 on education, reconstruction, and construction projects, aiming to foster long-term stability and development in the Kurdistan Region.

He concluded by extending gratitude to all donors, partners, and supporters who enabled the foundation’s humanitarian efforts throughout the challenging year.
