Prime Minister from Erbil Citadel: The Kurdistan Flag Is a Banner of Reconstruction and a Symbol of Peaceful Coexistence
Today, Wednesday, 17 December 2025, at the historic Erbil Citadel, a special ceremony was held to mark Kurdistan Flag Day, attended by the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, Masrour Barzani.
During the ceremony, which was attended by a distinguished group of representatives from the region’s religious and ethnic components, the Prime Minister delivered a speech congratulating the people on Flag Day. He affirmed that the Kurdistan flag is a symbol of the people of Kurdistan and a banner of steadfastness and immense sacrifices that never run dry. It is a symbol of peace, reconstruction, and peaceful coexistence, an embodiment of the continuity of life, and a source of vitality and pride.
The Prime Minister stressed in his speech that this flag, throughout history since its inception until today, has repeatedly been the final shroud covering the bodies of thousands of martyrs in Kurdistan. To keep this flag held high, thousands of fighters sacrificed their lives in the depths of prisons, walked toward the gallows, or rose as martyrs on mountain peaks and across the plains. Therefore, duty requires everyone to keep this banner raised and fluttering high.
He concluded by noting that the journey of reconstruction continues under the shade of this sacred flag toward a Kurdistan adorned with security, development, and stability, through united efforts, so that this banner may remain aloft, waving with dignity and pride for all time.
