Electrical Cable Replacement Completed at Sarbasty Substation
The Ministry of Electricity of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), in collaboration with the Rwanga Project team, has successfully completed the process of replacing and repairing electrical cables at the Sarbasty Electrical Substation.
This development marks a significant step toward improving power supply in the region. As a result, a substantial reduction in power outages is expected in the areas of Sarbasty, Manara, Nishtiman, Sebiran, Kani Qurqalla, Smailawa, Empire Project, VITAL Village, ITALY 1 Village, Lala Veyvi Avino, and MRF.
The Rwanga Project was launched by KRG Prime Minister Masrour Barzani in November 2024, with the aim of ensuring 24-hour electricity across the Kurdistan Region by the end of 2026. As part of this initiative, in May 2025, the KRG Council of Ministers approved new electricity tariffs to support the project’s implementation.
To date, the project has achieved significant milestones. Around four million citizens, representing over 50% of the Kurdistan Region’s population, now have access to continuous, 24-hour electricity. Furthermore, the centers of all governorates have already been connected to the upgraded power grid, marking a major achievement in the government’s infrastructure development plan.
