President Barzani: Gulan Revolution Proved the Kurdish Spirit Is Unbreakable

Erbil, Kurdistan Region – On the 49th anniversary of the launch of the Gulan Revolution, President Masoud Barzani issued a statement commemorating the historic event, calling it one of the most significant milestones in the resistance and struggle of the Kurdish people.

In his message, Barzani described the Gulan Revolution as a continuation of the objectives and ideals of the September Revolution. He emphasized that its spark was ignited through a carefully planned military and organizational strategy, and carried out with strong willpower—despite the difficult circumstances that followed the setback and displacement of the Kurdish population, as well as the intense pressure from the enemies of Kurdistan.

President Barzani paid tribute to the sacrifices made during the revolution, highlighting the courage of the Peshmerga fighters who gave their lives for the cause of freedom. He also recognized the suffering of displaced Kurdish civilians who, rather than submit to defeat, chose to endure hardship in defiance.

“The Gulan Revolution proved to everyone that the Kurdish people’s will to fight for freedom is unbreakable and will always remain burning bright,” Barzani stated.

He also honored the memory of the first martyr of the revolution, Sayyid Abdullah Haji Omarani, along with all Kurdish martyrs. The statement expressed deep gratitude to all Peshmerga fighters, activists, and patriots who played a role in the revolution and contributed to writing honorable chapters in the history of Kurdistan.

The Gulan Revolution, launched in May 1976, is widely regarded as a turning point in the modern Kurdish liberation movement.
