Erbil, Kurdistan Region - The Vice President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Abdul Karim Hosseinzadeh, met with an official delegation from the Kurdistan Region, led by Erbil Governor Omid Khoshnaw, on Monday to discuss enhancing political, economic, and cultural cooperation between the two sides. The meeting, attended by Dr. Hamidi, Iran’s Deputy Interior Minister, highlighted mutual interests in expanding bilateral relations.

During the talks, Hosseinzadeh welcomed the delegation and underscored the importance of deepening historical ties between Iran and the Kurdistan Region, particularly in trade, culture, and cross-border cooperation. He reaffirmed Tehran’s readiness to boost collaboration across multiple sectors.

Governor Khoshnaw emphasized Erbil’s commitment to strengthening ties with Iran, describing the neighboring country as a key partner. He expressed the Kurdistan Region’s desire to foster strong relations with all nations, particularly Iran, and called for reactivating previous economic agreements between Erbil and Tehran to drive joint industrial and commercial growth.

Khoshnaw praised the role of Tehran Governor Mohammad Sadegh Motamedian in facilitating trade between Erbil and Iran’s West Azerbaijan Province. He urged renewed efforts to implement existing agreements to enhance economic development.

The meeting concluded with an official invitation for Iran’s Vice President to visit Erbil for further discussions on advancing bilateral cooperation.

The visit follows the delegation’s arrival in Tehran on Sunday to participate in Iran Expo 2025, a major trade exhibition aimed at boosting regional economic partnerships. Upon landing at Imam Khomeini International Airport, the delegation, which includes Shaker Hossein, the Kurdistan Region’s official for Iran relations, and Masoud Batli, an international border affairs official, was received by senior Iranian officials, including representatives from the Foreign and Interior Ministries.

This high-level engagement marks a significant effort to reinforce Iran-Kurdistan Region relations, with both sides expressing optimism about future collaboration in trade, security, and cultural exchange.
