Kurdistan Region Declares Public Holidays for Easter Celebrations

Erbil, Kurdistan Region – In celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ (peace be upon him), the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has announced that Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday – 20, 21, and 22 April 2025 – will be official public holidays for the Christian community across all institutions in the region.

The decision allows Christian citizens and employees to observe the religious occasion, which holds great significance in the Christian faith. Government offices, schools, and other public institutions will remain closed during this period.

Normal working hours will resume on Wednesday, 23 April 2025.

The KRG routinely acknowledges and respects the religious holidays of all communities in the Kurdistan Region, reinforcing its commitment to coexistence and religious diversity.

Easter, marking the resurrection of Jesus Christ, is one of the most important festivals in Christianity, celebrated with church services, family gatherings, and cultural events.

This announcement has been welcomed by the Christian community in the region, further strengthening the bonds of unity and mutual respect among all religious groups in Kurdistan.
