KRG Civil Defense Team Participates in Advanced Disaster Response Exercise in Poland
Within the framework of cooperation between the German Federal Ministry of the Interior/Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Ministry of Interior/Crisis Coordination Center, a specialized team from the KRG General Directorate of Civil Defense took part in a three-day international experimental exercise in Poland from April 1 to 4, 2025.
The exercise aimed to explore and apply the latest global methods for rescuing citizens and response teams during disasters, with a focus on the use of cutting-edge technology and artificial intelligence. The KRG delegation joined several international civil defense teams in practical, real-time scenarios that followed modern international standards.
Throughout the training, participants engaged in simulations that tested emergency preparedness, rapid response coordination, and the deployment of advanced rescue equipment. These drills emphasized the use of drones, AI-powered search tools, and data-driven decision-making in disaster zones.
The participation of the KRG Civil Defense team reflects the government's ongoing efforts to enhance crisis response capacities, strengthen institutional readiness, and align with international best practices in civil protection. The Ministry of Interior emphasized that such collaborations are essential to building a more resilient Kurdistan Region in the face of natural and man-made disasters.
Officials from the Crisis Coordination Center expressed their gratitude for the support of the German Federal Ministry of the Interior and THW, noting that continued cooperation will further improve regional capabilities and ensure the safety of citizens during emergencies.
