Iraq..wide campaign to track down ISIS terrorist gangs
A large-scale security operation has been launched north of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, in order to track down ISIS terrorist gangs.
On Saturday morning, Iraqi forces launched a large-scale security operation against the remnants of the terrorist organization "ISIS", north of the capital, Baghdad.
The Security Media Cell said in a statement that the operation, which was launched according to "accurate intelligence information", aims to track down ISIS elements in areas north of Baghdad.
The Iraqi forces did not reveal the motives for launching the operation, but it comes in the midst of the increasing attacks on electricity towers in Iraq, from the north to the south.
On Friday, Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi announced the formation of a crisis cell to confront successive attacks targeting electricity towers, which led to an unprecedented crisis of power outages in large areas of the country.
Al-Kazemi ordered the security forces to mobilize to guard the power transmission towers, stressing the need to develop new plans to protect them from attacks, and vowed to the leaders that "any failures are unacceptable, and they will be dealt with firmly."
Iraq declared victory over ISIS in late 2017, but the terrorist organization remained in the form of cells stationed in remote areas, which it took as a haven to launch attacks from time to time.
