Security and Defense Committee: PKK attacks must stop

A joint committee of the Kurdistan Parliament and the Iraqi Parliament visited Dohuk Governorate. In a press conference, a member of the Defense Security Committee requested that the PKK's attack on the Peshmerga needs to be stopped because our laws do not allow foreign military movements to enter Iraq and attack other countries within the Iraqi borders.

Dohuk Governor Ali Tatar explained in the press conference that the PKK was an illegal force in the Kurdistan Region, and that its attack on the Peshmerga forces was an act of terrorism.

"We are not with a war and we do not fight with any political party. We call on all forces to withdraw their forces from the territories of Kurdistan and Iraq, and if there are wars and conflicts, let them enter their wars on their lands. But if it is through dialogue and a peaceful solution, that is much better," the governor of Dohuk said.

"We strongly condemn the attack of the PKK on the Peshmerga forces, and we consider it a terrorist act, and any force that attacks the Peshmerga forces in the Kurdistan Region is a terrorist act because the Peshmerga forces are the guards of the Kurdistan Region," he said. .

On the other hand, Nazzal Haider, a member of the Security and Defense Committee in the Iraqi Parliament, said that they arrived in Dohuk Governorate today to follow up on the situation in the region.

"Citizens will be martyred in Amedi and Zakho, but the Turkish invasion continued in the area, and they have established several military bases on Iraqi lands, and as a result of the Turkish occupation, Iraq has the right to retaliate by using federal forces, and we hope that a ceasefire will be announced as soon as possible, so that the citizens do not fall victim of the PKK-Turkey war.” he added.

Nazzal Haidar also stressed that the border areas need more forces, expressing his hope that there will be more understanding, so that the federal forces reach the borders.

He added, "During our visit, we wanted to explore the places where the Peshmerga forces and border guards are stationed. We want to see the situation on the ground, and then submit our recommendations to the parliament presidency."
