Implementation of the anti-corruption project will begin this month
The European Union (EU), in cooperation with the United Nations, is working on a project to eradicate corruption and carry out reforms, by supporting the KRG, and will begin four months from now, according to the head of the Kurdistan Regional Government's Initiative Board.
"We have prepared a strategy to combat corruption and carry out reforms, and Iraq has prepared a strategic project in the same way, as well as the European Union and the United Nations," Ahmed Anwar told the KDP's official website.
"The Kurdistan Region has allocated € 4 million to the region and Iraq for that purpose, in order to work on the elimination of corruption and reform within four years, which the EU has funded and will be carried out by the United Nations," he added.
Anwar said the EU ambassador had also visited the Kurdistan Region and discussed the project, which was announced last month and will be implemented from this month.
He also said taht the project is like this, they don't pay directly, but wherever work is done to prevent corruption and make reforms, they will cooperate financially and bring in experts. They want to develop the capacity to combat corruption and reform in all areas.
The head of the Initiative Board explained that the KRG supports the project, as the government itself has a reform project, and that the project will be a partnership for the government, which will bring in skilled people to help the government to carry out reforms, then it gives reforms and prevents corruption.
He stressed that there is a serious and ongoing effort in the Kurdistan Region to carry out reforms and that the work will be open and will continue, which is an important step the government is taking.
