Iraq still Eyes Russian S-400 Despite US Warnings
Badir al-Ziyadi, a member of Iraqi Parliamentary Committee of Security and Defense, was quoted by al-Sabah Newspaper as saying that "the issue has already been discussed with relevant figures at the General Command of Armed Forces, and now awaits the prime minister’s agreement," according to Sputnik.
He further noted that the purchase of the Russian defense system could be finalized after the ratification of the agreement by the new cabinet, adding that his parliamentary committee "will support the next Iraqi government’s decisions in this regard, and will present relevant proposals and pieces of advice to it."
However, Ziyadi pointed out that it would not be easy for Iraq to purchase the S-400 system because "the approval to acquire such a sophisticated system requires large financial allocations and a political decision in order to diversify the sources to get the weapons."
