ERBIL - Kurdish prominent leader and President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), Masoud Barzani, has congratulated Salahaddin Bahadin on his re-election as the secretary general of the Kurdistan Islamic Union (KIU).

Barzani, in a phone call with Bahadin on Sunday, also expressed his congratulations on the conclusion of the KIU’s eighth congress, wishing him success in his service.

According to a statement by Barzani's office, the Kurdish leader hoped for stronger unity among all sides for the sake of the interests of the people of the Kurdistan Region.

Earlier on Saturday, Bahadin was re-elected as the secretary general of the KIU by securing 546 votes out of 902.
